The Organizing Board of Directors:

Sofia Matrosova Khalil, Director/Founder of KAM

Raised in the backwoods of Russia's forests, Sofia's father encouraged her artistic abilities from a very young age. As a result, Sofia and her two brothers grew to be artists and sculptors, opening their first studio while still in university. While she enjoyed working with her family and creating masterpieces for distinguished clientele from Russia's elite Art community, Sofia dreamed of one day opening her own museum for children's art.
After graduating with an MFA  in Fine Arts from the Moscow Institute of Fine Arts, she then moved to Egypt for a few years, before finally settling down in California where continued her studies, earning her MA in Art History, MAED in Child Development, and a PhD in Leadership in Higher Education.
A professional artist, art educator, art historian, curriculum development specialist, trainer and educational technology professional, Sofia has been using her diverse skill set to build a place where children from all over the country and world can show case their inner artist.
As an educational researcher, she works on longitudinal research to build the creative development found in young children. Sofia is also the author of several publications in the areas of Art Education, Child Development, Attention and Creativity Development, Art History and use of technology in Education.

Leila Khalil, Director of Development & Communications

Raised by an artist for a mother, Leila grew up with the freedom to paint on walls and express herself in ways many children are not allowed too.
This is why she supports the idea of a Museum of Children' Art, not just as a space to hang paintings,  but as a space where kids can simply be kids.
Leila pursued her undergraduate degree as a study abroad student  at the American University in Cairo, Egypt in Middle East Studies.
As a young scholar, Leila brings to KAM her professional knowledge and experience in the arts, social media, communication, project management, research and writing, child education, community development and leadership.
